# Southampton: Club eyeing James Scott of Motherwell

**Southampton are reportedly keeping tabs on Motherwell forward James Scott, according to [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-everton-southampton-sheff-utd-chasing-motherwell-star).**

The 19-year-old has impressed so far this term, scoring three goals and providing one assist in his opening ten appearances for the club (all competitions), per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-scott/profil/spieler/443726).

While it was his team-mate, David Turnbull, who attracted interest from the likes of [Celtic](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/david-turnbull-celtic-transfer-saga-16511924) and [Norwich City](https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-transfer-target-david-turnbull-at-celtic-to-complete-move-1-6118371) during the summer, it is Scott who is now being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Southampton are allegedly targeting the teenage marksman, while Sheffield United and Everton are also reportedly interested in capturing his signature in January, per [TEAMtalk’s report](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-everton-southampton-sheff-utd-chasing-motherwell-star).

Scott – who is adept to playing both [up-front and on the wing](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/09/16/do-report-everton-southampton-and-sunderand-want-to-sign-james-s/) – has made a total of 10 appearances in all competitions this term, [producing three goals and one assist,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-scott/profil/spieler/443726) as well as earning himself a [call-up](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/09/16/do-report-everton-southampton-and-sunderand-want-to-sign-james-s/) to Billy Stark’s Scotland U21s last month.

At [6ft 2](<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Scott_(footballer,_born_2000)>), he’s certainly a presence in attack, which could be something that could help the Saints both now and when it comes to thinking long-term. Danny Ings stands at 5’8 while Che Adams is just 5’7, meaning both of the club’s first-choice central strikers lack a truly towering presence.

In terms of having another option, perhaps a move for someone of this stature could help.

With so much rumoured interest, it remains to be seen where Scott ends up if he does forge a move away from Firhill next year.

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is making his objectives clear this season, though, and wants as many young, direct, physically-ready players at his disposal as possible.

The Austrian has already drafted in Adams and Moussa Djenepo – both of whom under the age of 24 – while players such as Nathan Redmond, Sofiane Boufal and Yan Valery are all pivotal to what the former Leipzig boss is trying to achieve on the south coast – all of whom are still aged 25 and under.

With this in mind, Hasenhuttl making a move for Scott seems incredibly plausible.
