# Southampton desperate to complete deal for Man United target

![maneeeee](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/maneeeee-500x306.jpg)Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have got all their fingers and toes crossed today, after hearing that their club are moving to complete a deal with a highly-rated Manchester United target.

[*The Daily Mirror* states Southampton are readying an offer of a new contract to Senegalese star Sadio Mane](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-joining-transfer-race-southamptons-6880740), who is a [top-target for Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal.](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/621310/Southampton-Manchester-United-Chelsea-Sadio-Mane-transfer-gossip)

Mane is currently tied-down to a four-year contract that he signed last summer after his £11.8m arrival from Red Bull Salzburg but S[outhampton are now preparing to offer him improved terms](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-joining-transfer-race-southamptons-6880740) to fend off the interest of the Premier League’s elite.

That could prove difficult though, as the same reports also indicate [Chelsea have joined the hunt for the ferocious forward as they look to improve their faltering attack.](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-joining-transfer-race-southamptons-6880740)

Southampton fans can expect a healthy profit on Mane if the club agrees to a sale but for many that means nothing, as they’d much prefer the club to set a precedent and ensure the player is not sold; especially after losing so many top-names in recent years.
