**Southampton [confirmed](https://twitter.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1445378429898067971) on Tuesday that club captain James Ward-Prowse has been called up for England duty.**

And, as to be expected, a number of Saints fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

The 26-year-old will fill in for Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips, who [withdrew](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/12426635/james-ward-prowse-replaces-injured-kalvin-phillips-in-england-squad-for-world-cup-qualifiers) from Gareth Southgate’s squad through injury.

Ward-Prowse missed out on a place in Southgate’s European Championship squad over the summer but will now have the chance to impress the manager and possibly add to his [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-ward-prowse/leistungsdaten/spieler/181579) caps as England prepare for [World Cup qualifiers](https://www.skysports.com/football/teams/england/fixtures) against Andorra and Hungary.

The central midfielder, who [scored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chelsea-fc_southampton-fc/index/spielbericht/3592003) before being [sent off against Chelsea](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chelsea-fc_southampton-fc/index/spielbericht/3592003) prior to the international break, is now the [eighth](https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2021-10-05/james-ward-prowse-england-call-up-world-cup-qualifiers-october-2021) Southampton player who will head off to represent their country.
