# Southampton: Fans react to Wesley Hoedt’s departure

**Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt is preparing for his second loan spell away from the club having joined Belgian side Royal Antwerp on Monday.**

The centre-half has failed to settle in at St Mary’s since his arrival from Lazio in 2017, making just [45 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wesley-hoedt/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/253765) for the south coast club in all competitions over two years.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Celta Vigo, and hasn’t [featured competitively for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl since his arrival at the club last December](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wesley-hoedt/leistungsdaten/spieler/253765/plus/0?saison=2018), making it abundantly clear that his future lies away from Southampton.

One of his last appearances for the Premier League outfit came in an embarrassing 6-1 demolition by Manchester City at the Etihad last November, before he was part of a calamitous defence that threw away a lead against now-relegated Fulham to lose 3-2 at Craven Cottage two weeks later.

Here’s what fans of the club had to say about his departure on Twitter.
