Southampton are reportedly 'close' to making another signing alongside Racing Club gem Carlos Alcaraz.

The Lowdown: After Orsic...

It does not seem like the Saints are done with their January recruitment, after confirming the signing Croatia international winger Mislav Orsic from Dinamo Zagreb on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

They currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, and are in desperate need of some more reinforcements if they are to climb away from the relegation zone come the end of the season.

The Latest: Alcaraz and one more

Taking to Twitter, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has revealed that Nathan Jones' side are 'close' to making two more signings at St. Mary's Stadium, with one of them disclosed as Alcaraz:

"#Southampton understood to have two players on the south coast close to signing. One is striker Carlos Alcaraz. Deal agreed with #Racing amounting to £14m incl add-ons. Trying to confirm the other."

The Verdict: Who could it be?

It is any supporters' guess who the other signing could be, but the club have been linked with some interesting names of late.

The Championship's current top scorer Chuba Akpom has been a reported target, while Southampton are thought to have been 'knocked back' in their pursuit of Everton central defender Michael Keane on loan.

Nonetheless, Alcaraz promises to be a shrewd signing for them, having been lauded as ‘one of the biggest talents in Argentina‘ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig. and the 20-year-old has the ability to cover a wide number of positions for Jones.

Still, the Saints will feel as if more bodies are needed in order to help bolster the squad for what looks to be a relegation battle from now until the end of the campaign.
