Southampton transfer target Mislav Orsic is reportedly on his way to England to complete a medical ahead of a proposed move to the south coast club.

The Lowdown: Southampton's form

Southampton have lost their last six games in the Premier League and lie bottom of the table. It is not just the defeats which will concern manager Nathan Jones but also the manner of them, after another abject display against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

The Saints did not register a single shot on target in the 1-0 defeat, and it is now apparent that they need some inspiration from somewhere if they are to avoid relegation, but they now seem on the brink of completing a move for Orsic.

The Latest: Orsic set for Southampton medical

Despite recent reports from the Daily Mail that the forward was believed to be considering other clubs, it now looks as though a deal for the Croatian could be pulled off by Southampton.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor relayed an update from Croatian reporter Ižak Ante Sučić that Dinamo Zagreb have accepted an improve offer for Orsic, who is already en route for a medical at St Mary's.

Taylor tweeted: "As reported by @IASucic, Dinamo Zagreb have now accepted an improved offer from Southampton for Mislav Oršić. Deal worth in region of £7m including add-ons (Premier League survival). Told Croatian international winger has already travelled for medical."

The Verdict: Welcome boost for Jones

Given the current predicament in which Southampton find themselves, they need a player who is able to produce in the big moments, and that is exactly what they may be about to land after the latest development regarding Orsic.

Sučić lauded the 30-year-old as being 'capable of producing one piece of magic to do the crucial thing in a game'. This is the type of presence that the Saints so desperately lack at the moment, with Che Adams missing nine big chances.

Orsic has a fantastic record in the Croatian league this season, weighing in with eight goals and seven assists in 15 matches. Meanwhile, two goals in the Champions League group stage perhaps signifies that he is ready for a step up to a higher level, so he would be a fantastic signing for Jones and Southampton if all goes well with the proposed medical.

It would certainly come as a much-needed boost for the Saints manager amid the toxic environment which has been apparent at St Mary's of late amid the team's Premier League woes.
