Many Southampton fans have been left flocking to some news before their game at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

As per Football.London journalist Tom Leach, it is now 'unlikely' that the match will go ahead, although it has not been postponed 'yet' and there has been no official decision made.

This comes after the Magpies requested to postpone their most recent fixture against Everton due to rising COVID-19 cases, on top of a developing injury crisis at St. James' Park.

Of course, the health and safety of the players, fans and everyone associated with the club is a priority, but injuries are part of the game, and so some members of the St. Mary's faithful feel as if the game should not be postponed with injuries considered as a factor.

These Saints supporters were left flocking to the update from Leach as he shared it on his Twitter page:

"Disgraceful that struggling teams can just call games off where it suits them."

"I find it very strange that “and injuries” factors in the decision."

"If it gets called off then there needs to be a robust investigation @premierleague. Way too easy to manipulate to gain advantage. NUFC in deep do-da of their own making but can see a transfer window opening in a few days. @premierleague letting the money boys run their league"

"All seems far too convenient this as well, Newcastle get 2 games postponed against teams around them when their 2 best players get injured so they can play them later after their £200m spending spree…."
