Southampton: Transfer insider drops ‘optimistic’ behind-the-scenes claim

Southampton: Transfer insider drops 'optimistic' behind-the-scenes claim - Follow up

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Southampton have got an ‘optimistic’ feel ringing around the St. Mary’s Stadium ahead of the start of the new season.

The Lowdown: Hasenhuttl’s financial backing

After a disappointing 15th place Premier League finish last season, Ralph Hasenhuttl has been given the support of the owners this summer to turn that around, with the boss already having cashed out on just over £50m worth of new signings.

Six fresh faces have so far walked through the Saints’ doors in the form of Gavin Bazunu, Mateusz Lis, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo and Sekou Mara, creating the start of a new-look squad on the south coast.

The Latest: Jones’ BTS claim

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones shared what he’s discovered about the mood in camp from behind-the-scenes at Southampton. He said:

“Southampton have been changing a bit over the summer, they’ve bought in some interesting faces, they’ve changed formation and there is quite an optimistic feel around the club generally from what I hear, but there’s no doubt they could do with an extra face.”

Saints fans! Do you remember who scored your first goal of the 2021/22 season?

The Verdict: Heading in the right direction

Southampton have every right to be full of positivity, given the number of incomings to date and also the fact that they haven’t lost any of their big-name stars.

Hasenhuttl’s aim will no doubt be to aim for a top ten finish this upcoming season, and if his team can start picking up results more consistently, there’s no reason as to why that can’t be easily achieved.
