Many Southampton fans have been discussing a news update about reported target Demarai Gray that recently emerged on social media.
Sky Sports claim that Gray has now agreed terms with Bayer Leverkusen ahead of a potential move to the Bay Arena in the summer transfer window. The winger’s contract at Leicester City ends at the conclusion of the campaign and he would be able to leave the Foxes and join Leverkusen on a free transfer.
Should Southampton regret missing out on Gray?
The report states that Leverkusen believe that the Englishman can make the sort of impact in the Bundesliga as the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham have made in the division. Crystal Palace and Marseille were also interested in him, but Southampton were primarily linked with a move for the winger in recent weeks.
At Leicester, Gray has made as many as 169 appearances in all competitions. He has scored only 13 goals during this time, assisting 17 times for the Foxes.
This season, the winger has made only one appearance for the Foxes. Last season, he made 21 league appearances and contributed to five goals. He is currently valued at £10.80m by Transfermarkt.
The update about Gray’s situation was relayed on Twitter by The Saint Centre, leading to plenty of fan reaction…
What did Southampton fans make of this news about Gray?
“Massive opportunity missed, the strain on our widemen is massive and an extra experienced one for hardly any money seems silly to miss if we were in with a chance anyway, who knows.“
“Missed opportunity but at least he’s not going to a team we have to face…“
“Not bothered, guys an out and out winger so doesn’t suit our system, would want a fairly big wage aswell I think, one which we could pay, but would be unwarranted. This one was all just speculation anyway, club never said at any point we were in for him, just Saints ITK accounts.“
