Southampton: Fans react to Dan Sheldon article on Nathan Redmond - Southampton News

Southampton reporter Dan Sheldon has come out in support of Nathan Redmond after he has been criticised by a number of Saints supporters.

The 26-year-old has become something of a target for fans following his displays recently, especially as he is being played in an unfamiliar position by Ralph Hasenhuttl. Redmond is traditionally a winger, but he has been deployed mainly as a striker in recent weeks (Transfermarkt).

Can you name all ten obscure Saints players? First up, who is this?

He did provide an assist during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, but he still has just one goal to his name throughout the campaign. The Athletic journalist Sheldon has, however, written a piece in order to show the former Norwich City is not actually doing too badly up front.

Should Redmond play up front?

The piece, which was shared by Sheldon on Twitter, attracted plenty of attention from the Saints supporters, and they took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Redmond below

“Please Dan don’t go down this road. He’s been poor for 18 months”

“Redmond is not good enough for premier league just like stephens”

“Because he’s painfully average and hasn’t been good for ages when either che taki or tella is dropped to accommodate him”

“Totally disagree , tell me what position he’s good at ? He’s an attacking midfielder, so the idea of that is to be quick, cross the ball dangerously and score 5-10 goals a season. When does he do that?”

“Never been a fan, perceived ability over acutal ability massively differs. Just runs into people after trying to do them over and over again or stops and looks backwards most of the time…..hugely frustrating!!!!”

“My main problem with Redmond is that he is not improving. You could argue that he hasn’t improved at all since we signed him five years ago. He should be at his absolute peak by now but he’s been average/poor for the last 18 months. Not his fault he gets picked however.”

In other news, Emile Heskey has urged this man to leave Southampton.
