Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that Southampton striker Danny Ings needs surgery and is amongst five players with big injuries issues.
Ings amongst 5 injuries
The Saints face Newcastle this weekend, with them currently in top form after winning four and drawing one of their last five games in the Premier League.
On Wednesday, Hasenhuttl gave his pre-match press conference, and he was asked about the squad’s injury problems. He said:
“Yes, we have a lot of concerns at the moment and the last game was definitely a tough one. It was on the edge of what is okay for me and we paid a high price.
“We have a lot of injuries at the moment and it caused me a lot of headache.
“We have five players with big issues. Bednarek has a horrible crash. Bertrand is out for the weekend. Diallo has a dead leg.
“The worst is Danny Ings. We are in an unhappy situation to be honest because it could be much worse. At the moment he is out for four to six weeks and will have surgery tomorrow morning, small surgery hopefully.
“It could be worse and he is out.”
How do Saints recover?
The loss of Ings is a hammer blow to the south-coast side. The England international was the club’s top goalscorer last term with 22 goals in 38 league matches, and he already has five in seven so far this term. To lose him for six weeks is enough to derail the club during that period.
Can Southampton survive without Ings?
It is now time for Che Adams to step up. The 24-year-old had a torrid first campaign at St. Mary’s Stadium last time out, managing just four goals in 30 league matches, but he is already looking better this term with two strikes and two assists in just seven games. With Ings out of action, Adams will be asked to lead the line. This is his chance to show just how important he is to Hasenhuttl.
In other news, Saints fans praise this star against Aston Villa.
