Southampton: Kyle Walker-Peters injury is a 'huge blow' - Follow up

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters being sidelined for the foreseeable future is a ‘huge blow’, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Injury latest

The Saints earned a 1-1 Premier League draw with league leaders Arsenal last weekend, but were without the services of the 25-year-old after sustaining a serious hamstring injury in the game prior vs Bournemouth.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that the right-back is facing a long period out of action, and any outside hopes he had of being selected to go to the World Cup have now been ended.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones was full of praise for Walker-Peters and claimed that Southampton will feel a huge absence without him. He said:

“It’s a huge blow for Southampton losing Kyle Walker-Peters, he’s been probably their most consistent player in the last 12 months and he’s so versatile as well.

“He can go right back and left back, and I think he’s been a great avenue for them going forward, he’s provided goals and scored goals.”

The Verdict: Setback for Hasenhuttl

Walker-Peters is an integral member of Hasenhuttl’s starting XI, and not having him available for selection likely until December at the earliest will be a setback for the Saints boss.

The England international was averaging 1.9 tackles and 1.3 dribbles per league 90 minutes prior to his injury, highlighting his impact at both ends of the pitch, with a goal to his name also (WhoScored).

His return date yet remains to be seen, but now three games unbeaten, Southampton’s form looks to be improving as they aim to climb the table as much as possible before the break.
