Southampton: Fabrizio Romano shares Liam Delap transfer update -Southampton Transfer Rumours

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared a Southampton transfer update involving Manchester City forward Liam Delap as the Saints continue to be active in the market this summer.

The Lowdown: Hasenhuttl backed…

So far this summer, it’s safe to say that new Saints owners Sport Republic and sporting director Martin Semmens have been backing manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Premier League club have been busy, making six major signings in Gavin Bazunu, Sekou Mara, Romeo Lavia, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Joe Aribo and Mateusz Lis, with over a month of the transfer window still remaining (Transfermarkt).

Hasenhuttl and co are believed to want a new striker on top of this array of incomings, and links have previously emerged to another Sky Blues talent in Delap after the Saints’ captures of Bazunu and Lavia.

The Latest: Southampton make Delap offer…

As per Romano, sharing an update on Southampton’s pursuit of the exciting 19-year-old, it is believed that the south coast club have made an offer to sign the striker.

City have rejected the Saints’ first bid but, according to the journalist, Delap remains a ‘top target’ at St Mary’s.

Romano explained (via Twitter): “Southampton have submitted an official bid this week around £16m to sign Liam Delap on permanent deal. Manchester City have turned down the proposal. Delap, top target for Southampton but there’s still no agreement in place.”

Saints fans! Do you remember who scored your first goal of the 2021/22 season?

The Verdict: Keep pushing?

Likened to new Manchester City star Erling Haaland, Delap has certainly amassed a glowing reputation as one to watch – shining for the Cityzens’ elite development squad over the last two years.

The teenager has bagged a brilliant 32 goals and seven assists in 30 Premier League 2 matches since the start of 2020/21, with the teenager seriously displaying his clinical nature at youth level.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig best summed up his undoubted talent by calling the City gem an ‘absolute beast‘, and to us it is obvious that he could become world class with the right progression path.

Southampton want to offer him that, although it could be difficult to convince Pep Guardiola’s side into a permanent deal for the 19-year-old.
