Southampton: Dean Jones intrigued by Nathan Jones’ transfer plans -Follow up

Southampton‘s transfer policy in the January transfer window has been outlined by journalist Dean Jones, who claims that they want to sign two attackers.

The Lowdown: Jones looking to strengthen

Nathan Jones was appointed Southampton manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract in November, so the upcoming transfer market will serve as his first opportunity to strengthen his new squad and get his own style of players in.

The Englishman will need some attacking firepower to bolster the Saints’ chances of maintaining their Premier League status, with just 13 goals scored in 15 games, and journalist Jones has delivered a promising verdict regarding the club’s transfer targets next month.

The Latest: Two attackers on the agenda

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, the transfer guru said:

“I’ve said before, I expect two attackers to come in for the Saints by the end of January. The creator is the one that I’m most intrigued by, so any links to (Jesper) Karlsson are really interesting.”

The Verdict: Signings needed

Southampton are deeply embroiled in the relegation battle, so they seriously need to improve their options in attack, with their current forwards flattering to deceive in the Premier League this season.

Winger Moussa Djenepo has contributed just one assist in ten league outings during this campaign, the same tally posited by Mohamed Elyounoussi, who has made three more appearances.

Jones highlighted Jesper Karlsson as a potential target in January, and the “tricky winger“, as dubbed by journalist Josh Bunting, has fared much better with current club AZ Alkmaar, the third-best performing player in the squad in the Eredivisie so far this season.

The dynamo’s numbers last season were also of the highest standard, weighing in with 15 goals and 13 assists in 34 league outings, so he would be a vast improvement on the players Jones has at his disposal at the moment, and the manager should move swiftly to secure his services.
