# Southampton: Marcus Barnes suffers hamstring on loan with Eastleigh

**Southampton loanee Marcus Barnes was forced off while playing for Eastleigh in the Spitfires’ recent FA Cup stalemate against Welling on Saturday, via the [Daily Echo](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/17982647.southampton-loanee-marcus-barnes-suffers-hamstring-injury/).**

The 22-year-old is currently spending time on loan with the National League outfit, and has [scored twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-barnes/leistungsdaten/spieler/339795) for the Hampshire side – including a [stunning long-range effort](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49723578) against Torquay United last month.

After the game, Eastleigh boss Ben Strevens said that he hopes Barnes is able to make a swift recovery from his latest setback:

“Marcus has been bright and lively so hopefully he’ll only be out for a couple of weeks.” (via [Daily Echo](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/17982647.southampton-loanee-marcus-barnes-suffers-hamstring-injury/)).

The Reading-born frontman is still yet to make a first-team appearance for Southampton, and has previously spent time on loan with Yeovil Town during the 2017-18 campaign, where he [notched once in nine appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-barnes/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/339795) for the Glovers, then of League Two.

Barnes – younger brother of former Derby winger, Giles – has been a prolific goalscorer for the Saints’ under-23s, scoring 15 goals in 50 appearances for the club’s development side in Premier League Two (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-barnes/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/339795)).

He will now be hoping to recover from this injury as quickly as possible to ensure he obtains more valuable game time with Eastleigh, before returning to St. Mary’s in January.

With just three months remaining on his current loan deal with Eastleigh, this hamstring injury is incredibly frustrating as Barnes was just starting to get a good run of games in for the Spitfires, starting the club’s previous [six matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-barnes/leistungsdaten/spieler/339795).

Hopefully, he won’t face too long out on the sidelines and can return for Eastleigh’s forthcoming fixtures in November and December before heading back to his parent club in the new year.
