# Southampton: Dan Sheldon shares news on Ralph Hasenhuttl

**[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3645744/2022/10/03/hasenhuttl-job-southampton-sack/?source=emp_shared_article) journalist Dan Sheldon has shared a fresh report concerning the status of [Southampton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/southampton-fc-news/) manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.**

### **The Lowdown: Hasenhuttl at Southampton**

Having [joined the Saints in December 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ralph-hasenhuttl/profil/trainer/2300) after a successful period in charge at RB Leipzig, the 55-year-old has gone on to lead the south coast club in 167 games, having averaged [1.28 points per match](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ralph-hasenhuttl/profil/trainer/2300).

Having peaked in the 2019/20 season with an [11th-place finish](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-southampton/platzierungen/verein/180) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), Hasenhuttl has never been able to reach the heights of Mauricio Pochettino, Ronald Koeman and Claude Puel, who [all finished in the top eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-southampton/platzierungen/verein/180) as manager of the club.

### **The Latest: Sheldon’s latest on Hasenhuttl**

With just [two wins](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) from their opening eight league games this time around, [speculation has arisen](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjk1LKw-sX6AhWPNcAKHc8OBm0QFnoECB0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hampshirelive.news%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Ffootball-news%2Fralph-hasenhuttl-sacking-southampton-pressure-7649076&usg=AOvVaw1ENGmtjuCAnKUSqfLZqibI) as to Hasenhuttl’s future at St Mary’s, and Sheldon has now provided an update on the Austrian’s status at Southampton..

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/dansheldonsport/status/1576835782337507328) in sharing a corresponding article for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3645744/2022/10/03/hasenhuttl-job-southampton-sack/?source=emp_shared_article), the reliable journalist claimed: “Ralph Hasenhuttl maintains the board’s support but there is no doubt he is under increasing pressure.

“Some say time is needed to work with a young squad. Others point to the fact he’s been at #SaintsFC since Dec 2018 & it has become stale.”

### **The Verdict: Results need to improve**

As per [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3645744/2022/10/03/hasenhuttl-job-southampton-sack/?source=emp_shared_article), with many Saints insiders believing that the Austrian is now on borrowed time, it can only be so long until Hasenhuttl is relieved of his duties as manager.

With [reports](https://theathletic.com/3645744/2022/10/03/hasenhuttl-job-southampton-sack/?source=emp_shared_article) of the players having voiced their concerns with the board at the start of the season, it appears that there is no going back on the relationship at St Mary’s.

\[freshpress-poll id=”377174″\]

Therefore, unless there are significant improvements to their results, with the Saints having [gained just 12 points](https://theathletic.com/3645744/2022/10/03/hasenhuttl-job-southampton-sack/?source=emp_shared_article) from their previous 20 Premier League matches, Hasenhuttl’s departure in the near future seems rather likely.
