# Southampton: Fans praise Alex McCarthy

**Southampton fans have been praising Alex McCarthy after the club’s official Twitter account [asked for their opinion](https://twitter.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1334441251031093248) on the £5.85m-rated ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-mccarthy/profil/spieler/95976)) 31-year-old.**

McCarthy has played [every minute of every game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-mccarthy/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/95976) for the Gers so far this campaign as the south-coast outfit fly high towards the top of the division. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are currently in sixth place in the Premier League, and McCarthy has kept four clean sheets during that time.

Since signing for the club in 2016, he has made 92 appearances and has made himself Hasenhuttl’s first-choice between the sticks. He has even earned an England cap since moving to St. Mary’s Stadium.

The club’s supporters are absolutely delighted, it seems, with his performances so far this campaign, and this tweet from the club has given them the opportunity to laud the shot-stopper. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the former Reading man.

> He’s been brilliant. I do still get a bit nervous with his “shall I stay or shall I go”. If he gets that bit right he’ll be knocking on the England door
