# Southampton: Brandon Williams urged to move

**Trevor Sinclair has urged Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams to make a move to Southampton.**

### **Williams should join Saints**

The Saints have been [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/13274525/man-utd-brandon-williams-southampton-january-transfer/) with a move for the 20-year-old, who has made just [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brandon-williams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/507700) appearances in all competitions so far this campaign – albeit one of them coming in the Champions League. It has been suggested that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will only be able to sign him on loan, though.

[Talking on talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1606298400/1606307400/), Sinclair appears to believe it would be a great move for the youngster. He said:

> “*He’s very combative. He likes to get close to the winger. I’ve been impressed with him. (He’s) quick.*
>
> *“But I was wondering why he would go to Southampton if Ryan Bertrand was still there, because I rate Ryan quite highly. And now I know that (Bertrand is) stalling on his contract, it really does make sense.*
>
> *“That’d be a great place and a great platform for him to push on from what he’s already achieved at Manchester United.”*

### **Great move long-term**

At the moment, it appears as if a loan move is to United’s preference, but with Alex Telles and Luke Shaw ahead of him in the pecking order, it is hard to see where Williams fits in on a regular basis. At St. Mary’s Stadium, though, he is likely to have plenty more opportunities.

Bertrand is the only real left-back option, and he is already 31. Not only that, there have been [questions](https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-danny-ings-ryan-bertrand-4726280) over whether he will sign a new contract with his current deal set to [run out at the end of the campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-bertrand/profil/spieler/40611). With him out injured against Newcastle, centre-back Jack Stephens was [moved to the left of the back four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3421750).

If Williams were to move to the south coast, therefore, you feel he would have a big role to play.
