# Southampton: Saints snubbed by Demarai Gray

**According to The Sun ([via HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/01/27/report-premier-league-winner-will-reject-crystal-palace-and-southampton/)), Demarai Gray has snubbed a switch to Southampton as he looks to move abroad instead.**

### **Gray set to move abroad**

The Saints had been [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13634716/southampton-transfer-demarai-gray-leicester/) with an approach for the Leicester City winger, who has made just one appearance in the Premier League so far this campaign ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/292417)).

However, it seems he is set on moving away from England to continue his career by following a similar route to Jadon Sancho.

### **Blow for Saints**

While Gray has struggled to nail down a place in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI at the King Power stadium, he is a player with plenty of talent. The £10.8m-valued man ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/marktwertverlauf/spieler/292417)) was called “electric” by Darren Bent in September last year ([Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/hes-electric-exclusive-bent-reacts-as-spurs-open-preliminary-talks-to-sign-pl-dazzler/)), and his style of play has been previously compared to the likes of Sadio Mane ([Football Whispers](https://footballwhispers.com/blog/demarai-gray-offer-liverpool/)) and Raheem Sterling ([The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1653017/2020/03/06/demarai-gray-leicester-birmingham-rodgers-where/)), both of whom have been amongst the Premier League’s best performers in the past few seasons.

He has played over [100](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/292417) times in the top flight for the Foxes and is still just 24 years of age, offering a good mix of youth and experience at the top level. Given his contract is [set to run out at Leicester at the end of this current campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/profil/spieler/292417), he could have been signed for a cheap price by the Saints. Now, though, it seems Ralph Hasenhuttl and co will have to go back to the drawing board.
