# Southampton: Fans unhappy with Ralph Hasenhuttl comments

**Southampton fans are far from happy after Ralph Hasenhuttl appeared to suggest Alex McCarthy would keep his place in the Saints’ first-team ahead of Fraser Forster.**

The 33-year-old has been Southampton’s number one goalkeeper throughout the campaign, playing in 21 of their 22 matches in the Premier League ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-mccarthy/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/95976)). However, he has a save percentage rate of just 63%, which is better than only two other regular goalkeepers this term in the English top-flight ([FB Ref](https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/keepers/Premier-League-Stats)).

Forster, meanwhile, has played just [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdaten/spieler/52570) times in all competitions this season but is yet to concede a goal in any of those clashes. Hasenhuttl, though, has praised McCarthy publicly, which insinuates he will continue between the sticks.

The fans seem to think Hasenhuttl should give Forster a run. The comments from the Austrian were [shared by Twitter page @SouthamptonPage](https://twitter.com/SouthamptonPage/status/1360302905799168001), and the fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

### **Let’s see what the fans had to say about the comments from Hasenhuttl below**

**“It’s not the point last time we lost 9-0 Gunn was at fault for like 1 goal he dropped him it’s about consistency why make an example out of one keeper and not another especially when on form Forster is no doubt are stronger keeper”**

**“Hmmm. I suspect Ralph is saying something different behind the scenes. I hope so. I like McCarthy but his footwork and passing for a goalkeeper amongst worse in the league i.e he makes too many mistakes from those positions.”**

**“Does Forster have to score a goal to get in the team?”**

**“McCarthy hasn’t been terribly bad just had a few hiccups which every keeper has, only difference is, saints have a equally as good keeper in Forster sat on the bench waiting for that chance, which I think after recent performances he fully deserves.”**

**“This is a poor managerial decision. Alex has conceded 12 in 2 games. That must affect a keeper psychologically. If a striker scored 4 in 4 appearances he’d be straight in the team. This decision will come back to haunt Ralph on Sunday, I’m sure.”**

**“so that’s Forster back on the bench then. So frustrating, he is definitely our stronger choice right now and deserves the chance”**
