# Southampton: Fans gutted at Sam McQueen news

**Southampton fans were upset after Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted it is unlikely Sam McQueen will play football ever again.**

There was a time when McQueen looked as though he had a big future in the game. He made his debut in the F.A Cup during the 2013/14 season as a teenager and went on to make 29 appearances in all competitions for the Saints ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sam-mcqueen/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/226968)). He also embarked on loan spells at Middlesbrough and Southend United as he looked to gain experience.

However, when at the Riverside Stadium during the 2018/19 term, he suffered [a ruptured cruciate ligament](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sam-mcqueen/verletzungen/spieler/226968), and he has not kicked a football since. Now, prior to the Saints’ clash against Leicester City, Hasenhuttl said it would be a “miracle” if McQueen played ever again.
