# Southampton: Fans rage over Danny Ings contract rebuttal

**Many Southampton fans are raging at the news that Danny Ings has turned down a new four-year contract at St Mary’s.**

The 28-year-old has been one of the Saints’ best performers over the past couple of years, scoring 34 goals for the club in the Premier League in that time ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134294)), but there have been question marks over his future for several months. He has not signed an extension to his contract, which [runs out next summer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/profil/spieler/134294), and has been linked with moves to both Manchester City ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12253648/transfer-news-man-city-interested-in-danny-ings-as-sergio-agueros-potential-successor-this-summer#:~:text=Manchester%20City%20are%20interested%20in%20signing%20Southampton%20striker%20Danny%20Ings,Premier%20League%20leaders'%20top%20priorities.)) and Tottenham Hotspur ([Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/exclusive-tottenham-hotspur-lining-up-summer-move-for-striker-sasa-kalajdzic-transfer-notebook_sto8240915/story.shtml)).

It now seems that he is edging ever closer to exit door. As per [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2689430/2021/07/05/danny-ings-turns-down-new-contract-with-southampton/?source=twitteruk), three-cap England international Ings has turned down a four-year contract to stay on the south coast even though the agreement would have made him the best-paid player in the club’s history – he is already the Saints’ second-highest earner on £77,000 per week ([Salary Sport](https://salarysport.com/football/premier-league/southampton-f.c./)).
