# Newcastle United: Magpies hold Callum Hudson-Odoi ‘interest’

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) reportedly now hold an ‘interest’ in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi.**

### The Lowdown: Not in squad

The 21-year-old was [left out](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62358042) of the squad by Thomas Tuchel for Chelsea’s 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday evening, casting doubt over his future at Stamford Bridge.

He has only completed the full 90 minutes [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-hudson-odoi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392768/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=7471) times under the German over the past two seasons, which suggests that Tuchel does not really fancy him.

### The Latest: Newcastle ‘interest’

Taking to Twitter, journalist [Pete O’Rourke](https://twitter.com/SportsPeteO/status/1556187997745418241) has revealed that Newcastle, along with Southampton, hold an ‘interest’ in signing Hudson-Odoi, who has ‘told’ Chelsea that he wants to leave in search of regular first-team football.

The reporter tweeted: *“Callum Hudson-Odoi has told Chelsea that he wants to leave the club in search of regular first-team football amid interest from the likes of Southampton and Newcastle.”*

### The Verdict: Avoid

While Hudson-Odoi may be deemed an exciting prospective signing given that he is just 21 years of age, this is a deal that Newcastle should be looking to avoid.

The winger failed to show any consistency last season, with just three goals and six assists in 28 matches across all competitions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-hudson-odoi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392768/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=631&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), also receiving [heavy criticism](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/wright-shearer-chelsea-hudson-odoi-25986388) from Magpies legend Alan Shearer for some of his performances.

He also has a [bad injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-hudson-odoi/verletzungen/spieler/392768) and earns a whopping [£120,000 per week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/callum-hudson-odoi/) at Chelsea, more than [any player at St James’ Park](https://salarysport.com/football/premier-league/newcastle-united-f.c./), so signing him would be too risky for the Tynesiders and they should be looking at other targets.
