# Tottenham Hotspur: Arkadiusz Milik transfer hopes boosted as Napoli reduce asking price

**Tottenham have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Napoli striker [Arkadiusz Milik](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-napoli-striker-arkadiusz-milik-attracting-spurs-interest/).**

Sunday’s print edition of [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://gazzetta.it/) claimed \[via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-offer-reached-players-entourage-last-hours-let-battle-commence/)\] that the Serie A club have reduced their asking price for the 26-year-old from €40m (£36.93m) to €25m (£23.08m), with Spurs having reportedly made an offer for the Poland international.

According to [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://gazzetta.it/) \[via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-offer-reached-players-entourage-last-hours-let-battle-commence/)\], Milik wants a move to the Premier League as his relationship with Napoli has deteriorated.

Milik is a proven scorer with [109 goals in his senior club career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/191891), plus a further [14 for Poland](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/nationalmannschaft/spieler/191891/verein_id/3442). He found the net 14 times for Napoli last season, having hit the 20-goal mark in the previous campaign, while he has played in the Champions League in each of his four years so far in Italy (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arkadiusz-milik/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/191891)).

The 26-year-old averaged [2.6 shots](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/104257/History/Arkadiusz-Milik) per game in Serie A last season, just below the averages posted by Harry Kane ([2.8](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Archive/England-Tottenham?stageId=17590)) and Son Heung-min ([2.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Archive/England-Tottenham?stageId=17590)) in the Premier League for Tottenham. His 14-goal tally was slightly more than half of the Englishman’s haul of 24 and four short of the South Korean’s total (as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/leistungsdaten/verein/148/plus/0?reldata=%262019)).

At the moment, Jose Mourinho is hugely dependent on Kane at centre-forward – in the [absence of natural alternatives](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/kadernachposition/verein/148), the Spurs manager has had to deploy [Son](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/heung-min-son/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/91845/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/148) and [Lucas Moura](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-moura/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/77100/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/148) at the apex of their attack. While they can both adapt to a number nine role, it seems staggering for a club of Spurs’ resources that they would only have [one senior centre-forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/kadernachposition/verein/148) in their squad.

Indeed, when Kane’s influence is curbed, Tottenham can be easily stifled – the England captain was restricted to two shots against Everton yesterday, with the Lilywhites managing only nine in total in the 0-1 defeat (as per [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-tottenham/UwXh)).

Milik might not be guaranteed a place in Mourinho’s first XI if he goes to Spurs – the manager [often plays with just one centre-forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/spielplan/verein/148/plus/0?saison_id=2019) and Kane’s scoring record is notably superior to the Poland striker’s.

However, with the 26-year-old pining for a move to England and Napoli [seemingly wanting him off their books](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-offer-reached-players-entourage-last-hours-let-battle-commence/), perhaps Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been piling the pressure on the Serie A club to reduce their asking price in order to facilitate a quick exit.

Now that Napoli have substantially lowered their valuation for Milik, maybe Levy has already gone to work on sweet-talking the Italians into taking action to try and get him off their payroll more quickly. If that is indeed the case, the Spurs chief’s opportunism in trying to sway things in his club’s favour is to be applauded, for Milik could be an excellent alternative to Kane.
