# Tottenham: Spurs set for ‘initial talks’ over Harry Kane contract extension

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) will hold ‘initial talks’ with [Harry Kane](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/harry-kane/) in the next few weeks regarding a contract extension, according to [transfer insider](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer) Dean Jones.**

### The Lowdown: Kane to leave Tottenham?

The 29-year-old’s current contract is [set to expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/profil/spieler/132098) at the end of next season, leading to rumours about a move elsewhere for the England captain, with Manchester United [said](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11659069/Manchester-United-eyeing-stunning-summer-swoop-Harry-Kane.html) to be considering a summer swoop.

Bayern Munich have also been [named](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12794463/harry-kane-tottenham-striker-open-to-signing-new-deal-with-bayern-munich-still-interested-in-him) as potential suitors for the striker, but there is seemingly a decent chance that he remains at Tottenham, with CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently [detailing](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-thfc-harry-kane-contract/) that the forward is keen to stay put.

### The Latest: Contract talks planned

Speaking to [GIVEMESPORT](https://www.givemesport.com/88111561-tottenham-80m-star-set-to-hold-initial-talks-over-new-deal-at-hotspur-way) about the Englishman’s future with Spurs, Jones said: *“I expect in the next few weeks that there will be initial talks. It’ll be a situation in which they can now turn to.*

*“Being honest, even before the World Cup and during the tournament, asking about this, it was really a case of Tottenham just waiting for Kane’s camp to give them the green light that they were ready to have talks and to listen to what the offer would be.”*

### The Verdict: Fantastic news for Spurs

If the 29-year-old commits his long-term future to Tottenham, he is well on course to becoming the record [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) goalscorer. He has netted [199](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?co=1&se=-1&co=1&cl=-1&iso=-1&po=-1?se=-1) goals in the division, the third-most of any player, with the current record of [260](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?co=1&se=-1&co=1&cl=-1&iso=-1&po=-1?se=-1) being set by Alan Shearer.

Hailed as ‘[absolute gold](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1526331689693216769?s=20&t=VVZHTw_Yap4xevHvOAgOkg)‘ by Gary Neville, the forward is having yet another exceptional season in front of goal, only trailing Erling Haaland in the top-flight scoring charts, having netted on [16](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals) occasions in the league prior to today’s clash against Manchester City.

Kane has previously made no secret of his desire to win the ‘[biggest team prizes](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12289332/harry-kane-tottenham-striker-wants-to-win-team-trophies-after-carabao-cup-final-defeat)‘, so there would have been understandable concern that Tottenham’s [continued failure to do so](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/erfolge/verein/148) may affect the chances of him committing to a new contract in N17.

As such, it is fantastic to hear that he appears to be willing to enter initial contract talks, and the hope will now be for a strong second half of the season which will further convince him to stay with Spurs.
