# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs monitoring Djed Spence

**Tottenham have been watching Djed Spence this season, according to the Daily Telegraph’s [Matt Law](https://twitter.com/Matt_Law_DT/status/1490377773164158981).**

### The Lowdown: Spence impressing with Forest

The right-back joined [Nottingham Forest on loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/djed-spence/profil/spieler/483348) from Middlesbrough at the start of the season and has since gone on to make a fantastic impression at the City Ground, having made [23 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/djed-spence/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/483348/verein/703) in all competitions.

The 21-year-old played a huge part in [Forest’s dominant 4-1 mauling of FA Cup holders Leicester City](https://talksport.com/football/fa-cup/1036434/djed-spence-nottingham-forest-win-fa-cup-leicester-linked-arsenal-tottenham-transfer/) at the weekend. Sealing the result with a goal on the hour mark, Spence earned high praise from Trevor Sinclair, who [labelled](https://talksport.com/football/fa-cup/1036434/djed-spence-nottingham-forest-win-fa-cup-leicester-linked-arsenal-tottenham-transfer/) the youngster a ‘Premier League player’.

With his Boro contract expiring in [less than 18 months’ time](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/djed-spence/profil/spieler/483348), the Teessiders will not be short of interest in the player, as a number of top-flight clubs are [said to be monitoring](https://talksport.com/football/fa-cup/1036434/djed-spence-nottingham-forest-win-fa-cup-leicester-linked-arsenal-tottenham-transfer/) the full-back.

### The Latest: Tottenham watching Spence

According to [Law](https://twitter.com/Matt_Law_DT/status/1490377773164158981) on Twitter, “Tottenham have been watching Djed Spence this season”.

This follows reports that the north London club had [two bids rejected](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-transfer-talk/story/4582390/deadline-day-as-it-happened-aubameyang-set-for-barcelonadembele-opts-to-stay-at-camp-nou) for the defender during the January transfer window, but these offers are believed to have been significantly lower than Middlesbrough’s £15m valuation.

Consequently, Spence is set to resolve his future in the summer, as a whole host of clubs are said to be interested in his signature, [including](https://talksport.com/football/fa-cup/1036434/djed-spence-nottingham-forest-win-fa-cup-leicester-linked-arsenal-tottenham-transfer/) Spurs’ arch-rivals Arsenal.

### The Verdict: One for the future

Spence produced a man-of-the-match performance when Forest defeated the Gunners in the FA Cup third round last month, with the defender’s display hailed as ‘[unbelievable](https://tbrfootball.com/keown-labels-arsenal-target-djed-spence-a-rolls-royce-after-fa-cup-tie/)’ by Ian Wright.

The right-back continued to impress against Premier League opposition with an emphatic performance on Sunday. Martin Keown called him a ‘[Rolls-Royce](https://tbrfootball.com/keown-labels-arsenal-target-djed-spence-a-rolls-royce-after-fa-cup-tie/)’, approving of Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of the Boro defender.

If Tottenham are to ramp up their interest ahead of the summer transfer window, they will surely face a tough fight to secure Spence’s signature. However, with right-back [remaining a problem position](https://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2021/12/8/22822340/tottenham-hotspur-tactics-analysis-contes-wingbacks-solid-on-the-left-issues-on-the-right) for Antonio Conte, the 21-year-old could prove to be the answer for years to come if he can maintain the form he is showing in Forest’s hugely impressive FA Cup run.
