# Tottenham: ESPN reporter makes major claim involving Conte

**ESPN reporter Moisés Llorens has now made a major [Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) transfer claim involving manager Antonio Conte with a development expected ‘in the next days’.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs eye new defender…

As widely reported, it is said that a world class central defender is on Conte’s agenda among other positions after the north Londoners sealed an agreement for [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) star Yves Bissouma [(The Evening Standard).](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/yves-bissouma-tottenham-transfer-confirmed-b1006864.html)

A new right-wing-back and forward are also [believed to be priority](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/yves-bissouma-tottenham-transfer-confirmed-b1006864.html) but club chief Fabio Paratici seems to be working pretty hard on the central defensive signing particularly.

[GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88019552-chelsea-expected-to-sign-68-5m-star-major-gabriel-jesus-update-for-arsenal) recently lifted the lid on Tottenham’s long list of targets for the role, including Alessandro Bastoni, Josko Gvardiol, Pau Torres, Marc Guehi, Gleison Bremer and Stefan De Vrij.

### The Latest: ESPN reporter makes major claim involving Conte…

Indeed, a major update has come to light involving another defensive Conte target.

[ESPN](https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4690363/barcelona-tottenham-in-talks-over-clement-lenglet-loan-deal-sources) claim that Spurs talks are ongoing to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet as they eye a temporary deal.

Their reporter Llorens, sharing news on [Twitter,](https://twitter.com/moillorens/status/1540366459846762500?s=21&t=fxsv47tZlQ9J7-vei54CIg) says the Frenchman has ‘doubts’ so Conte will personally speak with him ‘in the next days’ to convince Lenglet to join.

### The Verdict: Get it done?

The [£170,000-per-week](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/transfer-latest-news-premier-league-fbxl93gbk?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#) defender, we believe, should come as a last resort.

Targets like Torres and Bremer arguably come with more quality as the former is called a potentially [‘perfect’](https://www.givemesport.com/88006558-tottenham-could-sign-romeros-perfect-partner-in-45m-star-at-hotspur-way) Spurs signing while the latter has been branded an ‘[emerging superstar’.](https://twitter.com/rajathkumar/status/1454723804383510533?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Lenglet, meanwhile, [struggled for regular starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/236511/Show/Cl%C3%A9ment-Lenglet) at the Camp Nou over 2021/2022 and we believe Paratici should first set his sights higher before attempting a loan.
