[The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/08/19/real-madrid-target-pierre-emile-hojbjerg-replace-casemiro/) claim that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are ‘considering a bid’ to sign ‘key player’ Hojbjerg with just under a fortnight of the transfer window remaining, and if he were to leave, Spurs manager Antonio Conte would surely demand a like-for-like heir.

### The Verdict: Don’t do it…

Hojbjerg has thrived under Conte and proved himself to be an dependable, and often irreplaceable, presence in Tottenham’s midfield.

Only goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and star striker Harry Kane played more league minutes than the 27-year-old last term, highlighting his importance to Spurs, not to mention that he finished 2021/22 as their fifth-best performer by average match rating ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Archive/England-Tottenham)).

Called ‘[sensational](https://twitter.com/GaffneyVLC/status/1524835571998281728)‘ by football writer Andrew Gaffney, letting Hojbjerg go so late in the summer could be a regrettable decision and a worry for Conte, regardless of the price that Real Madrid would be willing to pay.
