# Tottenham: Lilywhites ‘only’ side who can pay for Zaniolo

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) are the ‘only’ side who could break the mould and sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, who is currently more inclined to stay in Italy, according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs linked…

Over the last few weeks, Spurs and sporting director Fabio Paratici have been [linked](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/19322102/tottenham-nicolo-zaniolo-roma-mourinho/) with a move for the Serie A playmaker as they remain in the market for a creative presence.

Indeed, despite already signing Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet (loan) and Djed Spence this summer it is [believed](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-djed-spence-tanganga-bryan-gil-b1013249.html) that the north Londoners could yet make more new[Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) additions.

The Lilywhites could also[add another central defender](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-djed-spence-tanganga-bryan-gil-b1013249.html) to their roster, but according to a new claim from Italy, it appears N17 could be the most likely destination for Zaniolo apart from his current club.

### The Latest: Tottenham ‘only’ team who could sign Zaniolo…

Indeed, as per journalist Daniele Miceli on SportMediaSet (via [Tutto Juve](https://www.tuttojuve.com/calciomercato/sportmediaset-zaniolo-orientato-alla-permanenza-a-roma-solo-il-tottenham-puo-far-saltare-il-banco-608672)), Spurs may be the ‘only’ team who could sign Zaniolo this summer given they’re the sole side who are able to pay his €50 million (£42m) price tag.

Bar the Lilywhites intervening, Zaniolo seems more ‘orientated’ to remaining at the Stadio Olimpico as things stand.

### The Verdict: Pay the fee?

£42m for a player of the 23-year-old’s ilk is arguably reasonable considering he finished 21/22 as Roma’s best dribbler per 90 and also attracted the most fouls ([WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/84/Show/Italy-Roma), proving to be a real menace for opposition defenders.

The Italy international, still with many years ahead of a promising career, can prove to be a real threat on his day – leaving little wonder reporters like Carlo Garganese have called the player a ‘[beast’.](https://twitter.com/carlogarganese/status/1289651787390058496)
