# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs target Habib Diallo keen to work with Jose Mourinho

**Tottenham remain interested in signing Metz striker [Habib Diallo](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/tottenham-hotspur-spurs-reportedly-front-runners-to-sign-metz-striker-habib-diallo-this-summer/) in this transfer window, with one factor potentially helping in that pursuit.**

According to [Football.London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/habib-diallo-mourinho-transfer-bale-18884198), Spurs initially made enquiries for the 25-year-old back in January, while the player is reportedly keen to work with Lilywhites manager Jose Mourinho.

The Senegal international, valued at £10.8m by [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/habib-diallo/profil/spieler/344888), has [two years remaining](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/habib-diallo/profil/spieler/344888) on his current contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.

At 1.86m (6 ft 2), Diallo is a tall target man who unsurprisingly has an excellent record in the air, winning [4.3 headers per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/296372/History/Habib-Diallo) last season for Metz.

His scoring return for Les Grenats is superb, firing them back into Ligue 1 with [26 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/habib-diallo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344888) in 2018/19 and [netting another 12](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/habib-diallo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344888) in the top flight last term. Such impressive goal figures are helped by his predatory instincts, with a match average of [2.9 shots](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/296372/History/Habib-Diallo) hinting that his natural mindset is to go for goal when the opportunity presents itself.

As noted by [Football.London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/habib-diallo-mourinho-transfer-bale-18884198), Diallo captained Metz in a number of Ligue 1 games in 2019/20, with his manager Vincent Hognon evidently viewing him as an influential figure and natural leader within the team.

Tottenham have [one of the Premier League’s greatest centre-forwards](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?co=1&se=-1&co=1&cl=-1&iso=-1&po=-1?se=-1) in Harry Kane but Mourinho is very light on alternatives to the England captain. While Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn [can all play in the number nine role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/kadernachposition/verein/148), none of them are out-and-out strikers, so a more natural backup to Kane would indeed be desired.

Tottenham could do with another centre-forward and Diallo seems like he would be an ideal alternative to Kane. He is a proven scorer over a number of seasons, while his height and aerial prowess would give Spurs a Plan B if they needed to go more direct in chasing a game.

Diallo may well need to accept a regular substitute’s role in north London if he makes the move, but his apparent eagerness to work with Mourinho could help to swing a potential deal and give the manager a reliable target man to call upon if the situation requires.
