# Tottenham Hotspur: Juventus winger Douglas Costa could sign for Spurs with Ndombele swap deal

**According to a report by Italian news outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.it/2020/09/03/calciomercato-juventus-ndombele-inter-tottenham/), Tottenham could land Juventus winger Douglas Costa as the club search for an electric winger who can provide a threat from out wide – but the move would come at the cost of swapping club record signing Tanguy Ndombele.**

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on the [Last Word on Spurs podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/summer-transfer-window-ft-fabrizio-romano/id1281903552?i=1000489871646) that chairman Daniel Levy is looking for a winger in this transfer window, as well as a centre-back and striker, and Costa’s wealth of experience on the world stage could mark him out as a candidate.

Unwanted by Juventus, Costa is one of [three options for a swap deal](https://www.calciomercato.it/2020/09/03/calciomercato-juventus-ndombele-inter-tottenham/) involving out-of-favour Spurs midfielder Ndombele, and his impressive record of 1.9 dribbles per match last term indicates that he may still have more to offer in the Premier League ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Show/England-Tottenham)).

Given Spurs’ search for a wide attacker, this could prove a viable transfer, but it would mean a club-record acquisition moving the other way plus a potential fee.

The Brazilian, who has amassed [31 caps for his country](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-costa/nationalmannschaft/spieler/75615) since debuting in 2014, certainly has the pedigree after a fairly impressive career, but his age (29), [£190,000-a-week](https://sillyseason.com/salary/juventus-players-salaries-69069/) wages and slump in form are certainly factors to consider.

By comparison, Ndombele is just 23 and naturally possesses a longer shelf life, not to mention that Levy may be reluctant to sell for less than the [£54m spent](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8687313/Tottenham-keen-offload-54m-midfielder-Tanguy-Ndombele.html) to bring him to north London last summer.

While Tottenham are looking for an ‘extraordinary’ winger, like Costa can be [according to Maurizio Sarri](https://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/juventus-coach-sarri-extraordinay-weapon-douglas-costa-inspired-lecce-win-4331250#popup-sso), it’s debatable whether he is the answer for Mourinho, especially if it means offloading Ndombele.
