**According to an exclusive report from French news outlet [Le10 Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-asse-cest-plie-pour-nampalys-mendy-517052), Ligue 1 club Saint-Étienne have pulled out of the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Nampalys Mendy after the club managed to tie him down with a new deal.**

Despite starting just [four Premier League games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/90278/History/Nampalys-Mendy) for the Foxes last campaign, the Midlands club extended his stay at the King Power Stadium until 2022 along with star midfielder James Maddison ([BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53891334#:~:text=Leicester%20City%20midfielders%20James%20Maddison,year%20extension%20until%20summer%202022.), and [Le10 Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-asse-cest-plie-pour-nampalys-mendy-517052) claim that the new contract has put an end to the Ligue 1 side’s pursuit of the 28-year-old surrounding their financial issues.

Despite the Frenchman finding game-time limited in the Premier League, partly down to fitness trouble, the Foxes boss was still ‘[impressed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53891334#:~:text=Leicester%20City%20midfielders%20James%20Maddison,year%20extension%20until%20summer%202022.)‘ with his outings and potentially sees a future for the midfielder nearly four years after he signed from Nice in a [£13.95m deal.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nampalys-mendy/profil/spieler/111051)

After enduring an [injury-ridden start](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nampalys-mendy/verletzungen/spieler/111051) to his Leicester career under Claudio Ranieri, the 28-year-old came back with a bang during the 2018/19 campaign, starting [23 league matches.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/90278/History/Nampalys-Mendy)

Even last season, Mendy impressed when given the opportunity, averaging a [90.9% passing accuracy](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/90278/History/Nampalys-Mendy) in midfield alongside Wilfred Ndidi – with the hope being that he can become a more consistent presence in future seasons.

With Saint-Etienne pulling out of the race for his signature and Besiktas having also [taken an interest](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-asse-cest-plie-pour-nampalys-mendy-517052), Leicester look set to keep hold of Mendy for now as they aim to qualify once again for a European place.
