# Stewart: Bryan Gil/Erik Lamela swap deal is “good business” for Spurs

**Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of [Bryan Gil](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12364395/tottenham-complete-gil-lamela-swap-deal-with-sevilla) from Sevilla, in a swap-plus-cash deal with Erik Lamela going the other way, and former Spurs player Paul Stewart believes its “good business.”**

Gil, who’s 20 years old, has signed a five-year deal with Spurs, with Lamela going to Spain on a three-year deal.

The winger spent last season on loan with SD Eibar, where he scored[four goals and created another four](https://www.transfermarkt.com/bryan-gil/leistungsdaten/spieler/537382/plus/0?saison=2020) in all competitions. Gil also offers [versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.com/bryan-gil/leistungsdaten/spieler/537382/plus/0?saison=2020), as he can play on either wing and has also occupied the number ten role previously.

Former Spurs player Paul Stewart spoke to Transfer Tavern about the deal and said: *“They’ve still got to be looking at the defence as a priority, but with Erik wanting to leave and Nuno wanting him to leave and getting this other player that he wants, then you could say it’s good business.”*

Whilst adding an exciting youngster to the team in Gil, Spurs are also linked with defenders this summer. Fabrizio Romano [tweeted](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1412129470551580676?lang=en) earlier this month that Spurs are working on a swoop for Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, while the [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/07/26/tottenham-triple-swoop-cristian-romero-pierluigi-gollini/) reported that the club are increasing their efforts to land Atalanta centre-back Cristian Romero.

Gil’s deal to Spurs takes their summer window to two incomings, as goalkeeper [Pierluigi Gollini](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12362744/tottenham-transfer-news-pierluigi-gollini-joins-on-initial-season-long-loan-from-atalanta) also joined them over the weekend on a loan deal.
