# Stoke City boss willing to wait on record bid for £20m forward

**Rarely before has a transfer saga dragged across the course of two summers, though the Stoke and West Brom fans are unanimous in their yawning over Saido Berahino.**

Still,

According to reports from the [Stoke Sentinel](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html), the Welshman is slowly moving towards making a club record breaking bid for West Bromwich Albion striker, Saido Berahino after their initial approach was snubbed.

Stoke’s first bid of [£17m](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html), plus a further [£3m](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html) in future clauses was [reportedly](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html) met with a counter offer from Crystal Palace of [£20m](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html).

As ever, both offers were turned down by West Brom.

The 22-year old striker has been a long term target of Sparky’s, despite the fact he had already anticipated negotiations with the Baggies may not be too straightforward.

In reference to negotiations, Hughes [said](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/stoke-city-transfer-news-mark-hughes-making-swift-progress-on-two-fronts-and-patient-on-berahino/story-29546259-detail/story.html) “Bids go in, bids get rejected, that’s the nature of the beast.”
