# Sunderland: Adam Le Fondre emerges as potential summer signing

**[Sources close to Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-sunderland-and-portsmouth-among-clubs-eyeing-33-year-old/) have claimed that Sunderland are keen to make a summer move for Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre.**

Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson faces a summer of change at the club as he looks to build a side capable of gaining promotion from League One to the Championship.

A second consecutive failure to gain promotion has firmly put pressure on Parkinson and the summer transfer window is expected to see a number of players arrive at the Stadium of Light.

One area the Sunderland boss could look to improve is in attack having seen the likes of [Charlie Wyke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-wyke/profil/spieler/163535) and [Will Grigg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/will-grigg/profil/spieler/106676) struggle to find consistent goal scoring form.

[Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-sunderland-and-portsmouth-among-clubs-eyeing-33-year-old/) also claim via sources that Sunderland’s League One rivals Portsmouth are keen to make a move for the former Reading front man.

Le Fondre’s goal record during the 19/20 season was certainly impressive but it would be a gamble for Sunderland to hand him a chance next term, especially with such pressure set on the shoulders of Parkinson to gain promotion.

The potential interest does seem a little bit similar to that of Will Grigg, who had a good record before moving to the Stadium of Light and has struggled to say the least.

As experienced as Le Fondre is of the Football League, he would not be a player that becomes the future of the club, merely just a helping hand.
