The Chronicle's Sunderland writer James Hunter has shared news of an injury boost involving Dennis Cirkin.
The Lowdown: Back in training
It was reported last week that the 20-year-old had returned to training ahead of the Black Cats' 0-0 draw at home to Preston North End in the Championship over the weekend.
The defender was unfortunately not ready to play a part in that game, meaning that he has not featured since the 1-0 defeat at northeast rivals Middlesbrough in early September.
The Latest: Cirkin to make matchday squad
Taking to Twitter on Monday morning, Hunter has now shared the latest injury news from Tony Mowbray on Cirkin.
The Sunderland manager has said that the youngster is 'ready' and will be on the bench for their match at home to Blackpool on Tuesday night.
Hunter tweeted this pre-match team news update from the Black Cats boss: "Tony Mowbray: Dennis Cirkin is ready. He'll be on the bench tomorrow."
The Verdict: Big boost
It will certainly be a big boost for Mowbray and Sunderland to have Cirkin back in the squad for the Blackpool clash.
Before his injury, the 20-year-old had played in every minute of the Championship campaign, establishing himself as a key player in the team.
Cirkin also ranks highly among his team-mates in terms of aerial duels won and average tackles, interceptions, clearances and blocks per game in the division (WhoScored), further highlighting his worth to the Black Cats.
Supporters will surely be hoping that he can come off the bench at the Stadium of Light against the Tangerines and get some precious minutes under his belt as he looks to build up his sharpness.
