Sunderland are reportedly now in talks over the possibility of re-signing Nathan Broadhead.

The Lowdown: Alongside Simms

The Northern Echo have reported that the Stadium of Light outfit are pushing through a deal for Everton striker Ellis Simms so that he can be available before this weekend's match against Coventry City.

He would become their sixth signing of the summer so far, after the additions of Leon Dajaku, Daniel Ballard, Jack Clarke, Aji Alese and Alex Bass.

The Latest: Broadhead talks

The Northern Echo have also revealed that the Wearside club have been 'in talks' over potentially bringing Broadhead back, following his loan spell from the Toffees last season.

Alex Neil highlighted the club's transfer strategy to buy 'young developing players' in his recent press conference, and Broadhead would seemingly fit the profile at 24 years of age.

The Verdict: No-brainer

Adding Broadhead back into the mix on top of Simms and Ross Stewart should give the Black Cats enough firepower to stay up in the Championship.

Hailed as 'absolutely sensational' for the club last term by journalist and SAFC supporter Josh Bunting, the Welshman was their second-top scorer in all competitions with 13 goals, helping them on their way to promotion from League One.

Neil claimed that Broadhead formed a ‘really good partnership’ with Stewart when he was at the club, dubbing him a ‘constant threat’, and he was clearly a favourite of the manager as he never missed a league game under him when he was fit.

Nonetheless, bringing him back to the Stadium of Light seems like a no-brainer.
