Sunderland have reportedly made an offer to try and sign Manchester City winger Marlos Moreno.

The Lowdown: So much promise

Moreno arrived at Man City back in 2016 with a lot of promise, after emerging as one of the breakout stars at the Copa Libertadores, where he scored three goals and made four assists for Atletico Nacional (Transfermarkt).

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain hailed him as an 'excellent prospect', while South American football journalist Tim Vickery even hyped him over the likes of Neymar, Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez at the time (Man City).

However, now 25 years of age, Moreno still to this day has not made a single appearance for the Sky Blues, and so they are looking to move him on for good after several loan spells.

The Latest: Offer made

As per Marca, the Black Cats have made an offer for Moreno, but it has been deemed 'insufficient'.

Championship and North East rivals Middlesbrough are also thought to be 'very interested' in his signature, and Moreno will make a decision on his next club 'in the coming days'.

The Verdict: Risky

Having been sent out on loan no fewer than seven times by City, one would have to question how much desire Moreno has shown to break into their first-team squad.

Of course, the six-times Premier League champions have a very talented group of players, but on £45,000-per-week at the Etihad Stadium, Moreno perhaps would have been expected to show more.

Nonetheless, the winger will surely now want to prove himself, and it could turn out to be a masterstroke by Alex Neil's side should he hit the ground running in the second tier.
