Sunderland podcaster Philip West was left buzzing over the news that Edouard Michut scored for the Black Cats’ under-21s in their 3-2 win at Stoke City on Sunday.
The Lowdown: Building up sharpness
After just 37 minutes of senior football for the Stadium of Light outfit so far this season, Michut still needs to build up his match sharpness following his loan move from PSG in the summer.
A number of other first-team players were also involved for the under-21s against Stoke, including Abdoullah Ba, Leon Dajaku, Jewison Bennette, Jay Matete and Niall Huggins.
Nonetheless, Michut managed to get himself on the scoresheet, in what was a stellar overall performance.
The Latest: West buzzing
Taking to Twitter, West was left buzzing after Michut got himself on the scoresheet, claiming that it was ‘great to see’ and adding that it should give the attacking midfielder some ‘confidence’.
He tweeted: “Great to see Edouard Michut getting on the scoresheet for the Under-21’s today. He’s very physically slight and clearly still developing, but I don’t think he’s destined to fail at Sunderland. The goal should’ve given him some confidence.”
The Verdict: Needs more minutes
After impressing at under-21 level, there is no doubt that Michut now needs more minutes in the first team under Tony Mowbray.
Nonetheless, fellow attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard has played in every game in the Championship so far this season, so the 29-year-old could do with some rotation, giving Michut more matches to impress for the Black Cats.
