Sunderland podcaster Philip West was left hailing the performance of Aji Alese in their 0-0 draw at home to Blackpool in the Championship on Tuesday night.

The Lowdown: Another draw

Tony Mowbray's side may have been disappointed with a draw at the Stadium of Light, as they have now drawn more games than they have won in the Championship so far this season.

They faced a Blackpool team struggling in 19th place, and so it will feel more like two points dropped than one point gained.

The Latest: Alese hailed

Taking to Twitter after the game, Roker Report's West hailed Alese's performance in spite of the draw, claiming that the left-back was 'absolutely brilliant' and a 'threat' going forward:

"Two points dropped there. Really frustrating result. Played well in the first half but we lost control of the game in the second. Alese was absolutely brilliant - such a threat when he gets forward like that."

The Verdict: Playmaker

Considering that he is a central defender by trade, Alese has certainly played well at left-back since arriving from Premier League West Ham United in the summer.

He has the played the full 90 minutes in each of the Wearside club's last four games in the Championship, showing how much faith Mowbray has in the 21-year-old at the moment.

Against Blackpool, Alese was indeed one of the Black Cats' biggest threats going forward, creating two chances and having 62 touches of the ball in total, the fifth-highest of any of his teammates (SofaScore).

He performed his defensive duties as well, making two tackles and interceptions, while he also helped his side keep a clean sheet by winning three of his individual duels (SofaScore).

Nonetheless, Alese is certainly showing why SAFC brought him into the club this summer.
