Sunderland have completed a deal to sign Republic of Ireland international Aiden O’Brien, as confirmed via their official website.
Both Grigg and Wyke remain at the club whilst Kyle Lafferty, Antoine Semenyo and Duncan Watmore have all left and it has now been confirmed that boss Phil Parkinson has hauled in O’Brien to bolster his attacking options.
Completing his move to the Black Cats, the attacker said: “It feels terrific to be a Sunderland player.
“This is a massive club and I just can’t wait to get going. I love scoring goals, it’s what I live for and hopefully I can bring plenty to the team.
“I can’t express how excited I am, and I can’t wait to show the fans and my team-mates what I’m made of.”
A good signing for Sunderland and one that fans will hope to kick start further recruitment. Indeed, this is a player who has played 95 games in League One and 102 in the Championship so he has great experience, with 34 goals and 14 assists combined in the two divisions.
The fact O’Brien can play anywhere along the front line also makes him a good addition as he offers great versatility. At 26-years-old he still has plenty left in the tank too and on a free transfer they have surely got a bargain in signing the £428k-valued ace.
