Journalist Josh Bunting is thrilled by rumours linking versatile Brighton midfielder Reda Khadra with a move to Championship side Sunderland.

The Lowdown: Player profile

The 21-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan in the English second division with Blackburn Rovers, where he made 26 league appearances for the side, scoring four goals and adding three assists to his overall tally (via Transfermarkt).

The German played in a variety of different positions for Rovers; most frequently as a second striker, but also on the left wing and on the right-hand side of the midfield.

Impressive for his first full season in senior football, Khadra averaged a 6.65 SofaScore match rating across the Championship campaign.

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon (shared by Twitter channel SAFCrepublic): “Sunderland, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers are all chasing Brighton midfielder Reda Khadra.”

Bunting, being a huge Black Cats fan, reacted to the rumours in joy, ecstatic to be linked with such a player. Taking to Twitter, the journalist beamed: “We get him I will cry happy tears, loved him at Blackburn last season. Would be a stunning addition.”

The Verdict: Great signing with big potential

Hailed as “talented enough to play in the Premier League” by former Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray, Khadra would certainly be an excellent signing for Sunderland, who are keen to add young promise to their squad.

Following the arrival of 21-year-old Jack Clarke from Tottenham, Alex Neil’s side are clearly targeting youngsters with big potential, with long-term visions of making it back into the Premier League.

With the Brighton man also just 21-years-old, the Black Cats could have their attacking midfield positions sorted for years to come, potentially making this a great signing for the Wearside club.
