Many Sunderland fans were absolutely delighted with the performance of Charlie Wyke during the first half of their match against Accrington Stanley this afternoon.
The Black Cats are chasing promotion to the Championship but have been struggling in recent weeks – they have lost three of their last four matches, drawing the other one (Sky Sports), and have therefore failed to keep up with Peterborough and Hull in the automatic promotion spots. However, against Stanley, they find themselves 2-0 up at half-time.
Wyke has been instrumental in the first half. He scored both of Sunderland’s goals to take his tally for the campaign to 30 in all competitions (Transfermarkt) – he is the first Black Cats player to hit that tally since Kevin Phillips during the 1999/2000 season. If the Wearsiders are to be promoted, they will need Wyke to continue scoring on a regular basis.
Should Sunderland sell Wyke?
These fans were delighted with what they saw from the striker during the first 45 minutes, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts on the “goal machine”.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about Wyke below
“Unreal start, Charlie Wyke goal machine is back”
“Best in the world Charlie Wyke you know”
“Charlie Wyke is a machine”
“Wyke and McGeady masterclasses again, should’ve gotten tots”
“Did anyone, ANYONE, see Charlie Wyke cracking the 30-goal mark this season? It’s possibly the greatest turnaround in form for an individual Sunderland player for years. Incredible.”
“Charlie Wyke is the single greatest footballer on Earth. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.”
In other news, many Sunderland fans slam this manager’s comments.
