Many Sunderland fans hammered the performance of Grant Leadbitter during their 1-1 draw with Peterborough on Monday.
The Black Cats travelled to Posh for their second game in four days over the Easter weekend after beating Oxford on Friday. In the end, they had to make do with a point after Aiden McGeady cancelled out Siriki Dembele’s opener. However, given that Peterborough are just one of two teams above Sunderland in the League One table, Lee Johnson and his players can be happy with the result.
However, some fans were not pleased with the performance of Leadbitter. The 35-year-old started in the middle of the park alongside Carl Winchester and struggled to keep up with the pace of the game, landing just 76% of his attempted passes and losing possession on 15 occasions – only two team-mates had a worse ball retention record (SofaScore).
Was Leadbitter the worst player on the pitch vs Posh?
These supporters were far from happy with what they saw from the midfielder, who one fan called a “weak link” in the team, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts on the veteran’s performance.
Let’s see what the fans had to say about Leadbitter below
“Been coming like, been looking more and more like getting caught. Not sticking up front and Grant Leadbitter just isn’t good enough to start games anymore”
“Leadbitter too negative, McGeady giving 50% and I’m not even going to comment on McFadzean”
“Leadbitter and McFadzean. Weak Links”
“This McFadzean wow Leadbitter is done and I’ll give him benefit of doubt at minute but this Stewart looks a donkey”
“Leadbitter and MacFadzean shocking mind, let’s see if we can find some plumbs”
“Take the point. Good fightback. I thought Johnson was too slow reacting to their substitutions. It was clear both Leadbitter and MacFadzean were getting totally overrun. Not sure Wyke & Stewart works as a front 2 when the 2 CMs sit so deep. Roll on CAFC”
