Sunderland are interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Lowdown: Championship experience

Whilst on loan at Championship outfit Preston North End last season, the 25-year-old made 45 starts in the league, bringing his overall tally in the English second tier up to 69 appearances.

Having arrived at the King Power Stadium in 2016, joining the Foxes' under-21 squad, the Dane is still yet to make a senior appearance for the Midlanders' first-team. Instead, he has been sent out on five loan spells since joining the Premier League club.

The Latest: Nixon’s update

In response to a question regarding Sunderland’s interest in Iversen, Nixon shared an update on the goalkeeper’s future at Leicester.

Taking to Twitter, the journalist claimed: “West Brom keen. Sunderland keen. Depends if he goes on loan or is sold. Suspect this won’t be decided until later in window.”

The Verdict: Could be an 'excellent' signing

Upon the announcement of his new five-and-a-half-year deal in 2020, Leicester dubbed Iversen a ‘promising’ talent.

However, having never made a senior appearance for the club, the 25-year-old’s career in the top flight hasn’t panned out in the way that he would have hoped.

Nonetheless, he has been able to excel in the Championship whilst on loan, keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets while at Preston last term.

Hailed as an ‘excellent’ prospective addition to Alex Neil’s squad by journalist Josh Bunting, a permanent move for Iversen could allow him to reinvigorate his career with more long-term prospects in mind.

Given his experience in the Championship, the Dane would ‘provide perfect competition for Anthony Patterson’, to use Bunting's words, making this an ideal prospective signing for Sunderland.
