Former Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson has completed a move to Blackpool, as confirmed by the Tangerines' official website.

By leaving the Stadium of Light at the end of the 2019/20 season, the 23-year-old saw a 16-year association with the club come to an end.

Making a total of 14 first team appearances and 62 for the club’s under-23 side, Robson spent last season on loan with Grimsby Town before his contract with the Black Cats expired.

Available on a free transfer, Robson has gained plenty of interest from a number of clubs in the English Football League.

With that interest developing, Sunderland's League One rivals Blackpool have now won the race for the midfielder.

Football Insider reported that a deal has been agreed by all parties involved and, after a successful medical, Robson has now been confirmed as a new signing by the Tangerines.

Blackpool have been quite busy this summer in the transfer window, bringing in Keshi Anderson, Marvin Ekpiteta, CJ Hamilton, Oliver Sarkic and Jerry Yates.

It seems a strange decision by Sunderland to allow Robson to leave the club this summer after such a long relationship with the Black Cats, but manager Phil Parkinson obviously had other ideas for a player who struggled to establish himself in the first team at the Stadium of Light.

Those ideas may come to be regretted if Robson performs well for Blackpool and they finish higher than Sunderland.
