Many Sunderland fans are fuming with Lee Burge for his performance during the League One clash at the Stadium of Light against Gillingham.
The goalkeeper, who arrived in the summer of 2019 (Transfermarkt), has played 20 times in the league this season, including Saturday’s clash, keeping eleven clean sheets and only conceding twelve goals.
However, it seems like many fans do not believe he was anywhere close to good enough against Gillingham, with one supporter calling his performance ‘horrendous’.
Some fans pointed specifically to his role in Gillingham’s first half goal, as they felt that he should have saved the shot from Alex MacDonald (SofaScore), and it’s fair to say he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory for the late equaliser either.
Sunderland are currently right in the thick of the play-off race, so manager Lee Johnson can’t afford to see his shot-stopper giving up goals he should be stopping.
Here is what fans said about Lee Burge:
“Lee Burge must’ve won a radio competition to be our goalkeeper like”
“That’s horrendous from Burge but been coming. Haven’t cope we’ve these at all since we went 1-0 up, weirdly.”
“Burge must be the worst diver in professional football”
“What a goal from gillingham. Was coming lets face it, albeit it was weak from burge.”
“Burge needs to go. Wow.”
“Burge gotta be doing better”
