Sunderland: Fans react as Keith Downie provides huge managerial update

Many Sunderland fans are reacting to a huge managerial update, provided by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
Downie revealed on Friday night: “Sunderland are in advanced talks with Lee Johnson to become their new Head Coach. Johnson has been in the North East for face-to-face talks with #SAFC hierarchy. Sunderland hope to announce the appointment tomorrow…or possibly even tonight.”
*Since this article was published, the Black Cats have officially announced Johnson as the new boss.
This could be a very good appointment, as Johnson has an abundance of experience in the football league for sides like Bristol City. In his whole career, the Englishman has managed 371 games, winning 144, drawing 92 and losing 135 (Transfermarkt).
This is a very respectable record and he could be the ideal candidate to help the Black Cats crawl back up the Football League ladder. However, this news has generated a mixed reaction, with some Black Cats supporters believing he is not the right man for job.
Whatever happens, it is better to get a new manager in so they can get a structure in place rather than toil in uncertainty.
Here is what Sunderland fans said following the news:
I’m optimistic about this appointment, here’s hoping it doesn’t come back to bite me!

Really feels like another Parkinson job, shrewd at the time, but can he do the job over time

Not really happy with that appointment. He will not get us promoted!

I think this a smart appointment. Interesting to see if he hits the ground running as I seem to remember he’s struggled over winter months with a couple of clubs (inc. #oafc).
He’s the right sort of tactician for Sunderland imo – and will seek value in the transfer window. https://t.co/yOeItE29OT— Chris Stringer (@stringer_oafc) December 4, 2020
