Fans of Sunderland have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which James Copley discussed recent comments made by Black Cats winger, Aiden McGeady.

So far this season, McGeady has been in rather spectacular form over his 23 League One appearances for Lee Johnson's side, scoring four goals and registering 12 assists, as well as averaging a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.39 - ranking him as the club's best performer in the third tier.

And, with the 35-year-old's contract at the Stadium of Light set to expire at the end of the season, when questioned whether he would like to remain at the club going forwards, the former Ireland international stated (via Sunderland Echo):

"Of course I do. I never wanted to leave Sunderland last January, I wanted to stay. That's why I didn't leave in the summer. I'm happy here and I want to be a part of the team that goes back up and then part of the team that maybe goes back up again - that's the dream, for everyone here."

In reaction to McGeady's comments, the Sunderland Echo journalist, James Copley, then took to Twitter, asking whether Black Cats fans believe the winger deserves a new deal with Lee Johnson's side, with the overwhelming majority appearing to feel the 35-year-old definitely does warrant a new contract at the club.

So, what exactly did these Sunderland fans have to say regarding Aiden McGeady's contract situation?

"Definitely. Wouldn't think twice about it."

@Tog41

"8-year deal."

@KrisWall92

"He could still do a job in the Prem if used correctly. New deal for me, regardless of what league we're in."

@LiamRIrving

"100%. He's earned it, as it stands he's very much the difference between us playing League One or Championship football next season. Even at 35, he's still got the ability and his fitness for his age is remarkable. He's got a couple of years left in him no matter what."

@Camer0nJohnson

"Give the man what he wants. Can even have my bit on the side."

@NathanPrins89

"Class act get him signed up."

@HallBhall

"No brainer! He has been outstanding for us."

@chrisgaudie

"No brainer for me, sign him up regardless."
