Sunderland Echo have revealed the answer to a Twitter poll that asked whether or not Will Grigg still has a future at the club.
Arriving at the Stadium of Light back in the winter transfer window of January 2019, the former Wigan Athletic has had the spotlight firmly on him, seeing his move much documented via Netflix series Sunderland Til I Die.
With the 2019/2020 season now ended, Grigg’s season has been looked upon, netting just one goal and gaining one assist for Phil Parkinson’s.
Grigg has commented on his future following up on those reports by saying he is ‘fully committed’ to the club for next season and a latest poll has now revealed how the fans feel about the situation.
“In a poll on Twitter, a narrow majority of 51.1% believe that Grigg does still have a future at Sunderland – while 48.9% feel his days in the North East are numbered,” it was claimed by the Sunderland Echo.
Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson is set for a summer of wholesale changes as he looks to build a side capable of gaining promotion from League One to the Championship.
We will have to wait and see what happens to Grigg between now and the start of the season. If a bid comes in for him, Sunderland may be tempted to cash in before his value goes under the £1m mark, given his poor form last term.
His comments on being committed to the cause are good to hear though and given this is a player with 101 League One goals in his career to date, he could yet come good at the Stadium of Light if he does remain with the club.
